Keyboard Express allows for macros to be assigned to categories. The categories provide a simple way to find macros after they have been created. For example create a Password category to hold any macros containing important passwords or assign any MS Word specific macros to a MS Word category. A macro may only be assigned to one category.
When the program is first installed, there are two default categories - All Categories and Unassigned. These may not be changed, but new categories may be added, or later deleted or renamed. All Categories displays all of the macros in the file. The Unassigned category displays all macros not assigned to a category other than All Categories.
New Category
Select this menu option (Category > New Category) to add a new category. A new category folder and edit box will appear in the category list. Type in the name to be assigned to the new category. Sub-categories may also be created underneath a main category. To do this, right mouse click on the main folder and then left mouse click on New Category. A new category sub-folder will be added to the list.
Rename Category
To change the name of a category already created, highlight the category and click on the Category > Rename Category menu option. Type over the existing highlighted entry to assign a different category name. This functionality is similar to Windows Explorer.
Enable/Disable Category
Use this option to disable all of the macros in a specific category. Select the category and click on Category > Disable Category to disable all macros in that category. Or if the macros are disabled, the option displays to Enable the macros in the category.
Delete Category
Highlight the name of the category to be removed and click on Category > Delete Category. A warning message displays to verify that the category should be deleted. Click yes to delete the category and any sub-categories of that category.
Placing Macros in Categories
Once a category has been created, drag the macro from the Keyboard Explorer list to the category of choice. To drag the macro, highlight the macro to be assigned to a new category. Hold down the left mouse button and move the pointer to the category listed in the Category column. When the mouse is pointing to the category desired, release the left mouse button to insert into the category.
Click on the category and the macro is displayed as part of that category. Only those macros assigned to that category are displayed. The macro just moved also remains in "All Categories".
Keyboard Express - Explorer > Macros > Move to Category
Instead of dragging the macros into categories, the other option is to use the menu commands to assign macros to categories that have already been created. Highlight the macro you to move and click on Macro > Move to Category. A list of categories will appear as in the example above. Highlight the category desired and press the OK button.
With either of the above options, highlight a block of macros and move them all at once to the category of choice.
Note: The categories are specific to the macro file that is currently open. If a new macro file is opened, the categories change to what are assigned for that file.
