Global Macro

This tutorial demonstrates how to create a simple global macro assigned to a hotkey.

Assign a HotKey

1.Run Keyboard Express. (If running in hidden mode press the Activation Key sequence. By default, hold down the CTRL key and the Up arrow key).

2.From the Keyboard Express - Explorer, click on the Macro > New Macro menu item to open the Create New Macro window.

3.Hold down the CTRL key and press the F2 Key and then let go of the keys. This should place "Ctrl+F2" in the hotkey edit box and highlight the Ctrl+F2 in the list box. "CTRL F2" is the hotkey to be use for activating the macro.

4.Enter My Address in the Nickname field. The nickname is used as a quick and easy identifier of what the macro is supposed to do.

5.Click OK to open the Keyboard Express - Editor window.

Create the Macro

1.Make sure that the Global option is selected. Note: If a CTRL+F2 Global macro already exists, a second global macro with the same hotkey combination may not be created.

2.Leave the Use Clipboard option unchecked.

3.Type your name and address into the Enter Keystrokes field or for testing purposes insert the following:

Fred B. Smith

123 Applewood Lane

Anywhere, CA 82113

4.Click on the Save and Close button to save the macro and return to the Keyboard Express - Explorer File window.

5.There should now be an entry that shows Ctrl+F2, My Address and GLOBAL in the list of macros. The macro has now been created.

Run the Macro

1.First run the Windows Notepad program. (Click on the desktop Start button, choose Run and enter notepad. Or enter notepad in the Search box and select notepad when found.)

2.Once notepad is running, hold down the CTRL key and press the F2 key. The address entered into Keyboard Express should now be typed out into notepad.

3.Run an email program or word processor program and press CTRL+F2 inside it. The address should play back there as well.
